Jamaica has a piece of my heart. I’ve been to Jamaica more times than I can count, and Montego Bay continues to be one of those places that just feels GOOD. And if you’re considering a stay at one of the three RIU resorts in Montego Bay, you’ve come to the right place.

I’ve personally stayed at all three: ❤️ RIU Reggae, 🌴 RIU Montego Bay, 👑 RIU Palace Jamaica. So I’m going to give you the resort scoop, my personal favorite, things to do beyond the resort, airport and transportation tips, what to pack, how long to stay, safety information, and a whole lot of Jamaica. 🌴 MEET THE RIU RESORTS IN MONTEGO BAY

Montego Bay’s RIU trio sits together along Mahoe Bay, creating one convenient resort area with three distinct RIU experiences. Three properties, three vibes, one beautiful stretch of Jamaica. RIU’s own Montego Bay destination information identifies Hotel Riu Montego Bay, Hotel Riu Reggae and Hotel Riu Palace Jamaica as the three RIU properties in Mahoe Bay. Riu Montego Bay is the resort that brings the energy. It is an adults‑only, 24‑hour all‑inclusive beachfront property with multiple pools, a swim‑up bar, Splash Water World, themed restaurants and RIU Party entertainment.  Montego Bay is the resort that brings the energy. It is an adults‑only, 24‑hour all‑inclusive beachfront property with multiple pools, a swim‑up bar, Splash Water World, themed restaurants and Riu Party entertainment. This resort is designed for travelers who enjoy music, drinks, pool time, parties, entertainment and long beach days. It features five swimming pools, including one with a swim‑up bar, along with Splash Water World and the full Riu Party programming, making it the most lively and social of the three Riu resorts in Montego Bay. 

Riu Montego Bay also offers pool‑party energy with foam‑party events that are part of the resort’s daytime entertainment schedule. These parties have been associated with Riu’s lively programming and add to the energetic, social atmosphere that sets this property apart. Entertainment schedules can change, so it’s always best to check the current lineup during your stay. The fun at Riu Montego Bay continues throughout the day, making it a strong choice for travelers who want an active, upbeat vacation experience.

❤️ RIU REGGAE — MICHELLE’S PICK

Riu Reggae is the resort I personally return to the most. After staying at all three Riu properties in Montego Bay, this is the one that consistently delivers the atmosphere I love. It offers a fun, lively, adults‑only environment with music, activity, friendly guests and an upbeat energy throughout the day. The resort blends beachfront relaxation with a social pool scene, creating a balance of movement and downtime that feels distinctly Jamaican. If you enjoy good music, positive energy, people around you, and a vacation that feels alive without being overwhelming, Riu Reggae is the property I recommend first. It is not a quiet or sleepy resort; it is designed for travelers who want a fun, engaging Montego Bay getaway. Depending on current Riu exchange privileges, guests at Riu Reggae may have access to certain daytime facilities at neighboring Riu Montego Bay, but these arrangements can change, so confirm the details at check‑in.

👑 RIU PALACE JAMAICA

Riu Palace Jamaica has always offered a more polished, elevated experience within the Montego Bay Riu lineup, and it has a distinctly different personality from Riu Reggae. The resort delivers a refined, adults‑only atmosphere with a quieter, more upscale feel compared to its lively sister properties. At the time of writing, Riu Palace Jamaica is closed for refurbishment from August 31 through December 11, 2026, with a scheduled reopening on December 12, 2026. The renovation includes guest rooms, general facilities and common areas, with the property transitioning into an upgraded Palace Premium experience. Because renovation timelines can change, verify the current status and booking availability before publishing.

Flying into Sangster International Airport (MBJ) is the natural starting point for a Montego Bay vacation, and planning your transportation before you arrive makes everything easier. I do suggest you secure your private transfer before you travel. While you could spend your entire stay enjoying the resort’s pool, beach, drinks, food and music, Montego Bay is also a great base for exploring Jamaica, with beaches, marine activities, historic sites, river adventures and cultural experiences waiting just beyond the resort gates.

Montego Bay is amazing — but Jamaica outside the gates is where the stories happen. If you’re staying at any of the RIU resorts, here are the experiences I’d actually put on your list — the ones worth getting out of your swimsuit for.

2. Dunn’s River Falls Jamaica’s iconic waterfall climb. Wet, fun, and full of “I can’t believe I’m doing this!” moments.

3. Martha Brae Bamboo Rafting A slow, dreamy float down the river on a hand‑crafted bamboo raft. Peaceful, scenic, and pure Jamaica.

4. Rose Hall Great House + Luminous Lagoon (Day + Night Combo) Spooky history at Rose Hall followed by glowing bioluminescent water at Luminous Lagoon. Two totally different vibes in one unforgettable Jamaica day.

5. Snorkeling & Marine Adventures Explore Montego Bay Marine Park’s reefs, tropical fish, and underwater beauty. Great for beginners or ocean lovers.

6. Catamaran Cruise Sunshine, ocean breeze, rum punch, music, dancing — a vacation‑within‑your‑vacation.

You don’t have to choose between an all‑inclusive resort vacation and experiencing Jamaica. Do both. That’s where the magic happens!
☀️ WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT JAMAICA?

There isn’t one perfect month — there’s only what’s perfect for you. Jamaica has a tropical climate with a wetter season (May–November) and a drier beautiful season (December–April). So instead of asking “What’s the best month?”, ask:

• Want the best weather odds

• Want lower‑season pricing

• Want to avoid holiday crowds

• Traveling around your schedule
